“In the beginning, God made everything and He made it well.” (‘It was Good. Making Art to the Glory of God’ – Ned Bustard, editor) God loves beautiful things. When the children of Israel were building the Tabernacle of Moses, God said to Moses, “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.” Exodus 31:2-5 God wants to empower us to be skillful in what we are called to do. He does not call us to be mediocre but exceptional. He gives us the spirit of excellence.
My expression of art is my way of pointing people back to Him, the Bearer of the Gift. My skill is a gift from Him. My goal is to help people to know His love, grace, mercy, faithfulness, and everything about Him through His written word. I want people to experience the power of His word.
The word of God is powerful and yet many times we don’t take it seriously. When I learned about how I could use the word of God in my prayer, I realized I just tapped into a gold mine. In my daily walk, I have to be intentional in making my will align with His will. Declaring His word over my day helps me do that.
As I learn to be more intentional in using God’s word in my daily lives, I find that writing them out helps me remember them and displaying them in a prominent place where I can easily see them helps me internalize them.
As I continue to learn, I find my passion for the word and love for hand-lettering and calligraphy collide beautifully. I want people to remember God’s promises and know who they are in Christ. I also want the word to look beautiful and unique that it will draw people’s attention to it. These pieces can become a tool to share the Good News. You can display these pieces anywhere you think will bless you and the people around you. Some of them are available as cards that you can send to friends and family as encouragement, prayer and reminder of His promises.
